Decorah School Board reluctantly approves track renovations.

On Monday night the Decorah Community School Board reluctantly approved a $347,777 bid from Skyline Construction for the Viking Stadium track improvements. Skyline was the sole bidder, at a cost about $50,000 above the estimate.

StruXture Architects said the sole bid was not unexpected or unusual for a city like Decorah. Board members saw the project as necessary since the track has gone several years beyond its 15 year life expectation. As board member John Hjelle expressed his "hesitant" approval he said, "there is no advantage to waiting."  The Board did not approve "alternate bids" for sideline team boxes that could have added another $60,000 to the project.

The approval did not include bids for the scoreboard project which will include Decorah Athletic Booster Club funding, and will be bid later.
