Five Decorah Students have received honors in the annual Creative Writing Celebration sponsored by the Iowa Reading Association for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

The local Northeast Iowa Reading Council selected five Decorah students' work as winners at the local level: 3rd grader Piper Chen, 4th grader Libby Phillips, and 8th grader Lillian Grouws for creative writing; and 4th grader Brynn Storhoff and 8th grader Olivia Opat for poetry.

Three of these students then were chosen as winners at the state level competition--Piper Chen, first place; Olivia Opat, second place; and Lillian Grouws, third place.  For her first place win, Piper Chen will be honored at the Iowa Reading Association's Summer Conference in Ames, Iowa.
