Decorah High School and Luther College graduate Teresa Procter has been cast in the role of the school principal in a production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Carousel" by the Houston Grand Opera.

The Houston Grand Opera production features Richard Bado as conductor and chorus master.  He has been with the Houston Grand Opera since 1989.  It also features Tony award winner and Broadway veteran Rob Ashford as director and choreographer.

Performances of "Carousel" will continue through Saturday.

In addition to the "Carousel" production and her residency with Houston Grand Opera, Teresa is also under contract with the Houston Bach Society and is a Fellow in the DaCamera Young Artist Program.

Teresa has also been appointed as the Houston Program Coordinator and Emcee for the national organization "Music for Autism."  In this capacity, she organizes and coordinates free and interactive music concert programs for individuals with autism and their families.

Teresa received her Master's of Music in Voice Performance from Rice University in Houston, TX, and her Bachelor's of Arts in Music, magna cum laude from Luther College.  As a recipient of the Sviatoslav Richter Fund for Music Outreach Grant during her graduate studies, Teresa created and performed opera workshops for patients and their families at the Texas Children's Hospital through the Arts in Medicine Program. She continues to serve patients at Texas Children's as the Singer-Songwriter Fellow with "Purple Songs Can Fly," a music studio in the hospital that positively affects the lives of pediatric cancer patients and their families through the writing, recording, and sharing of original songs.
