April in Decorah was warm and dry

The weather in Decorah continues to be warmer than normal.

Decorah weather observer Richard Bernatz says temperatures in Decorah in April averaged 50.7 degrees.  That's 3.4 degrees warmer than the average over the past 123 years.

The significantly higher average was reached even though there were no record high temperatures set in April in Decorah.  Instead, temperatures stayed above freezing every day in April after the 11th and reached at least 70 degrees on ten days.  18 days in April had high temperatures that were greater than average.

Compared with April of 2016, 19 Aprils were warmer and 103 were cooler, says Bernatz.

As for precipitation, there was 1.75 inches of it in Decorah in April--all in the form of rain.  That total was 1.37 inches less than the average precipitation of 3.12 inches.

For the past 12 months, however, precipitation in Decorah is still 3.90 inches above normal.
