KDEC Radio switches state news network affiliation

Posted: Sat, Apr 30, 2016 8:05 PM

KDEC Radio has become an affiliate of Radio Iowa.

The AM and FM stations had previously gotten state newscasts and news stories through the Iowa Radio Network, which was operated through WHO Radio in Des Moines.  However, the owners of WHO have stopped operating the statewide network.

That created an opening for KDEC to change affiliates.  "For years, Radio Iowa has been the gold standard in statewide radio news," says KDEC General Manager Bob Holtan.

Both KDEC-AM and KDEC-FM will be airing Radio Iowa broadcasts starting Monday.  KDEC-AM will carry four minute Radio Iowa broadcasts during their 5:50 a.m., 6:50 a.m., 7:50 a.m., 11:50 a.m. and 4:50 p.m. weekday newscasts and two minute Radio Iowa broadcasts every other hour at :50 minutes past the hour.  KDEC-FM will carry Radio Iowa broadcasts during morning newscasts, noon and 5:00 p.m. newscasts.

KDEC News Director Darin Svenson will continue to anchor KDEC's local newscasts.
