Two students from St. Benedict's School in Decorah are among 66 Iowa students who have taken top honors at the state's National History Day contest and have advanced to the National Finals of the National History Day.
Rachel Bower and Maggie Kane were recognized in the category of Junior group website for their project, "Frederick Law Olmsted: Exploring Landscape Design, Encountering Opposition, and Exchanging Artistic Ideas."
Nearly 8,000 Iowa students participated in the National History Day competition at the school level this year. About 2,500 advanced to compete in 12 different district contests, with about 600 students selected to participate in the state finals.
Iowa's state winners now move on to the 2016 Kenneth E. Behring National History Day Contest June 12th through the 16th at the University of Maryland. They will compete against nearly 3,000 students for scholarships and prizes.
