Decorah HS physics students do well at regional and state contests

Derek Weis and Bryce Hosting earned second place in catapult building

35 Decorah HS physics students competed at a regional physics competition recently, with one team finishing second and qualifying for the state-level competition at UNI's McLeod Center, where they placed third. 

Qualifying for the state competition were Maggie Breitenstein, Dalton Brown, Ashley Gulrud, Garret Hemesath, Melissa Holyoke, Bryce Hosting, Hannah Klotzbach, Tristan Rowley, Shai Shay, and Derek Weis.

In addition to scoring in third place as a team, the DHS catapult entry, made up of Bryce Hosting and Derek Weis, earned second place; the bridge building entry, made up of Ashley Gulrud and Melissa Holyoake took third place; and the mousetrap car entry, made up of Hannah Klotzbach and Garret Hemesath, also took third place.
