No comments at public hearings regarding Decorah school calendar or proposed track renovation

On Monday the Decorah Community School Board convened for a brief session to hold two public hearings. There were no comments from the public.

In January, the Board had passed the school calendar for 2016-17, but a public hearing was required to finalize the plan. The Board will approve the calendar again at its May 9 meeting. The first day of classes is scheduled for August 24.  The full calendar is available at the district website:  http://www.decorah.k12.ia.us/ .   The public hearing process for the calendar became slightly altered because of the legislative mandate regarding the earliest allowable starting dates for schools.

The Decorah High School track renovation project will now proceed with the bidding process. It is hoped that the Board will act on the bids at their May 9 meeting. The new scoreboard for Viking Stadium will not be part of the bidding process since it is a project of the Decorah Athletic Boosters.
