Steve McCargar releases his platform for his State Assembly candidacy

Posted: Mon, Apr 11, 2016 11:36 AM

Decorah resident Steve Mc Cargar, a candidate for the Democratic Party nomination in State Assembly District 55, has released his campaign platform statement.

Mc Cargar says it's important to elect a Democrat to the position because "Republican control of Iowa state government leads to an expansion of corporate profits and power, subsidized by Iowa taxpayers' money."

He says, if elected, he would work for a moratorium on issuing any new permits for CAFO construction in Iowa until all pollution issues can be addressed; for clear restrictions on the use of eminent domain for non-public purposes; for long-term funding increases for public schools, state universities, and community colleges; and for restrictions on the use of tax money (tax credits, loans, or other direct subsidies) for economic development unless the beneficiaries are worker-owned businesses, cooperatives, or Iowa-based companies.

Mc Cargar also says "our most vulnerable citizens will suffer" when Medicaid and mental health programs are privatized.  He promises to work to re-establish the administration of Medicaid as a state responsibility.
