School buildings in the Decorah Community School District will be on lockdown Monday.
The action is being taken after Decorah Police began an investigation on Saturday morning and, as a result, contacted Decorah school officials to report that a "credible threat" had been made involving the elementary schools in the district.
Lockdown means students will not be allowed outdoors during school hours. It also means entry into the school buildings will be restricted.
A statement from the school district said, "After thorough discussion with the Decorah Police Department and the Winneshiek County Attorney, precautionary safety measures will be taken at all district buildings. Every effort will be made to provide a safe and secure environment which will allow your son or daughter to have a normal day."
Additional information is expected to be released Monday afternoon.
