The North Winneshiek and Postville School Boards have agreed to share the school superintendent position for the 2016-2017 school year.
Last month, Postville school superintendent Abe Maske accepted a similar position in the Belmond-Klemme School District starting on July 1st. He had been the Postville School superintendent for the past three years.
The Postville School Board contacted North Winneshiek about sharing the superintendent's position for next school year. The two school boards met Thursday night to discuss a potential agreement that would have North Winneshiek Superintendent Tim Dugger spending three and a half days a week in Postville and one and a half days a week at North Winneshiek. Dugger's contract will be split at 75 percent ($104,000) at Postville and 25 percent ($34,500) at North Winneshiek.
The State of Iowa has approved additional funding for school districts which share superintendents. This means North Winn will receive $54,000 and Postville will receive $54,000 in additional funding to pay for the costs of sharing a superintendent.
For next school year, North Winneshiek will seek to hire a half-time principal to cover the daily administrative duties. North Winneshiek will reduce its other administrative personnel from 1.0 to 0.75. That means the school district will realize a net savings through these changes.
