Students in three Decorah High School classes have toured the Hotel Winneshiek and Restauration Restaurant and kitchen as part of their class.
Last spring Hotel Winneshiek chef Tom Skold came to Decorah High School to discuss preparing two dishes: Black Bean Soup and Jicama Salad. The dishes were then served at the Viking Cafe at Decorah High School.
Students then toured the hotel and restaurant, learning about its history as well as the hospitality and restaurant side of the business.
Said Decorah HS student Jacob Roher after the tour, "I learned that running a business and a restaurant can be a lot harder than it may seem on the surface. I never realized that the manager and head chef would have such long hours and have to stay at work for so long."
