Waverly Utilities is hooking up its first test customers this week to a brand new 1 gigabyte fiber optic Internet system.
The rollout will continue over the next three months, with the new system fully operations on July 1st.
That means Waverly is meeting the schedule it laid out one year ago, which called for construction of the fiber backbone to begin last summer and to be completed in March of this year, with the first test customers on board on April 4th.
A spokesperson for Waverly Utilities says 1,100 customers have already signed up for the service in the community.
