All three incumbent Winneshiek County supervisors up for election this fall will face opposition. In fact, there will be two primary contests to determine the names on November's election.
In District 3, which covers northern parts of the City of Decorah, as well as Canoe Township and part of Decorah township, Republicans Les Askelson and Tade Kerndt will face off for the right to face incumbent Democrat Dean Thompson in the fall.
In District 4, which covers Calmar, Springfield, Military and Bloomfield townships and includes Spillville, Calmar, Ossian and Castalia, Republican Devin Humpal from Castalia will face incumbent County Board Chair John Logsdon, with the primary winner facing Democrat John Lensch in the fall election.
There will be no primary in District 5, which covers nine of the ten townships west of Decorah. Democratic incumbent Mark Kuhn will face Republican Lonnie Pierce--a former county supervisor--in the November election.
