When a leaky roof forced the Sunflower Child Care Center to temporarily move out of its building in November, staff members and parents had to move all of the equipment and supplies out of the building so repairs could be made. Stone Ridge Community Church allowed Sunflower to use space at the church during construction. Sunflower Financial Director Merlene Brown says the staff did a good job of "persevering during a challenging time."
The Sunflower Board of Directors decided to also do some remodeling to its building as long as it was doing repairs. There were upgrades made to its kitchen and its classrooms, including new flooring, paint, fixtures, divider walls, new insulation and a suspended ceiling. Energy savings were considered when installing upgrades to LED lighting and roof insulation.
On Tuesday evening the child care center showed off its new surroundings. Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors held a ribbon cutting for the newly refreshed facility. Appropriately, the son of general contractor Dave Irons--Dawson Irons--cut the ribbon to make Sunflower's return to its facility official.
