In Boone, Emily Beckwith Fazzino's friends promise to keep her legacy alive

Purple ribbons now line the streets of Boone, Iowa.  They are in memory of Emily Beckwith Fazzino, the Boone woman who was found dead in the bathtub of her home in January of 2012.  On March 9th a Winneshiek County jury of eight men and four women returned a "Not Guilty" verdict in the murder trial of Alex Fazzino, Emily's husband.

Two close friends of Emily—Shannon Jensen and Sara Ihle—tell decorahnews.com they wanted to do something to remember Emily by, rather than focusing on their grief.  They remember Emily as "a very giving person."

The two women created a non-profit organization called "Emily's Legacy."  The organization's first fundraiser will be held Saturday, April 2nd at a gym in Boone, with the money raised going to the Boone County Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence.

Jensen and Ihle say they believe Emily would have approved, since she was a giving and selfless person.  They plan to continue to hold fundraisers in the future, with the money raised going not only to programs in Boone, but similar programs across the state.

The two women say raising money to help other women is a way to make something positive, rather than focusing on their grief in the wake of Emily's death.
