The deadline has passed to file nomination papers to be on the ballot for the November election in state legislative races in Iowa.
For State Senate District 28, incumbent Republican Michael Breitbach will face a challenge from Democrat Jan Heikes.
In State Representative District 55, four people will run for the seat currently held by Republic Darrel Branhagen, who has decided not to seek re-election. Elgin resident Alex Popenhagen and Dorchester resident Michael Bergan will face off in the Republican Party primary in June, while Democrats Steve Mc Cargar of Decorah and Pat Ritter of West Union will do the same in the primary. The winners of those two contests will face one another in November.
