Freeport Park improving and hoping for more

Posted: Thu, Mar 10, 2016 5:48 PM

The Freeport Park has gotten a lot of improvements in the past year, especially with the Trout Run Trail extension now passing the park.  But Winneshiek County Conservation officials say they've got a number of more improvements in mind.

A kiosk at the park will get a trail map and a sign explaining how the GPS signs on the trail work.  A low maintenance prairie garden will be planted between the trail and the fence for the adjacent Freeport Cemetery.  Several trees will be planted, as will plants that are pollinators.

It's also possible that new playground equipment will be put into the park, although such an improvement is not immediately planned.  A small playground would cost around $10,000 to install.  A large playground could cost as much as $100,000.  It's also possible the current playground equipment will be kept and just spruced up.
