Posted: Tue, Mar 8, 2016 4:55 PM

NICC has received a $5,000 grant from Disability Rights IOWA to support a Rock the Vote event that raises awareness of Iowans with disabilities and/or mental illnesses, and how the rights of persons with disabilities pertain to the democratic process.

The Rock the Vote event will be held at the NICC Calmar campus Student Center from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 16th.  It is free and open to the public.  Attendees may register to vote, learn why participation and voting is important, how issues and policies define Republican or Democratic party affiliation and meet members of the County Social Services Board.

"People with disabilities have the right to have their voices heard and have the right to vote. Throughout this campaign season the grant will be used to promote awareness of policies and issues that affect Iowans with disabilities," explained NICC coordinator of disability services Anna Stamat.

Free transportation to and from campus will be available. The event features a social hour and entertainment. For more information, contact Anna Stamat, NICC coordinator of disability services, at stamata@nicc.edu or (563) 562-3263, extension 258.
