More medical testimony in the Alex Fazzino murder trial

Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation crime lab employee Amy Pollpeter was the first witness Monday as testimony resumed in the Alex Fazzino murder trial.  Pollpeter did a number of DNA analyses for the state crime lab following Emily Fazzino's death.

She told the court Monday that she examined the DNA found on clippings of Emily Fazzino's fingernails and found no blood on them.  She did find a "mixture of DNA" on the right fingernails, but testified "I can't determine" whose DNA was on the fingernails besides Emily's.  That's because the second DNA--or even second and third DNA--was too faint to be able to analyze.

Pollpeter also testified she analyzed blood stains on two pieces of clothing owned by Alex Fazzino.  There were blood stains on both a pair of catgo pants and a Scheel's t-shirt belonging to Alex Fazzino.  She said the DNA on those blood stains was a match with Alex Fazzino's DNA.  However, there was no DNA in the blood stains that came from anyone other than Alex Fazzino.
