Circuit Court Judge John Bauercamper has cancelled an arrest warrant for Decorah resident Christina Gray after Gray checked into the Women's Center for Change in Waterloo.
In 2012 Gray pleaded guilty to first degree theft, first degree fraudulent practice and commission of unlawful activity for borrowing $97,200 from Linda Henning of Decorah and not paying it back, as well as for borrowing $10,200 from Jane Bullerman of Decorah and not paying it back. Gray allegedly told the two women she had cancer and needed the money for medical expenses. Judge Bauercamper sentenced Gray to two ten-year prison terms, then suspended the sentences and put her on five years probation.
Last year Judge Bauercamper held a court hearing into whether Gray had violated the terms of her probation and ought to be jailed. He ruled last April that Gray could remain on probation--if she agreed to live at the "Women's Center for Change" in Waterloo until she received the maximum benefit from treatment there.
Gray was scheduled to check into the Women's Center for Change by May 20th of last year, but did not check in and was arrested on June 8th. A substitute judge in August agreed to release Gray if she would promise to report to Waterloo by September 9th. Gray said medical concerns prevented her from checking in at that date, but did not produce any medical records when Judge Bauercamper requested them.
This year Bauercamper again told her to report to the Waterloo facility and issued an arrest warrant early in February. On Thursday Judge Bauercamper cancelled that arrest warrant after receiving news that Gray has checked into the facility in Waterloo.
