County supervisors are weighing the options of ways to fix the county jail's leaky roof

County supervisor John Beard and three members of the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department are being asked to make a recommendation of what to do to fix the leaks in the roof of the county jail.

Supervisors met Monday with representatives of three roofing companies in NE Iowa.  Representatives from Moss Roofing of West Union, Allen Roofing of Monona and K & J Roofing of Waterville outlined the options for putting a new roof on the jail.

Much of the discussion centered on whether to use a rubber roof or a vinyl roof.  The question is complicated by the number of air conditioning units and other equipment on the top of the jail roof.

The repair to the jail roof is expected to cost roughly $60,000 to $70,000.
