Alexander Fazzino murder trial later this month in Decorah will require beefed up security

Two weeks from now--on Monday, February 22nd--the first degree murder trial of Alexander Fazzino of Boone is scheduled to get underway in Winneshiek County Court--barring any further delays.

Fazzino faces life in prison if he is convicted of first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Emily, whose body was found in the bathtub of the family's home in Boone in January of 2012.  Fazzino was arrested on the first degree murder charges in April of 2013.

Because the trial is expected to be a high-profile case, security will be tight at the Winneshiek county Courthouse.  County officials have been holding meetings with Boone County officials about security at the courtroom and the entire courthouse.

Winneshiek County Sheriff Dan Marx says there will be "extremely heightened security" during the three weeks of the trial.  That definitely will include police officers on hand during the trial and could also involve metal detectors being set up to screen people entering the courtroom.

Marx says police will be blocking some of the entry doors at the Courthouse during the trial, so it might be a good idea to visit the Courthouse this week or next week if you need to talk with someone in one of the offices.
