A Decorah woman is being profiled in a newsletter because of her work with Postville residents.
Kathi Mitchell's story is being told by an official United Methodist Church ministry called "National Justice for our Neighbors." She is co-coordinator of the Iowa Justice for Our Neighbors legal clinic that holds hours on a regular basis in Decorah.
Along the way, she became a legal guardian for Alex and Javier, who escaped from Guatemala, survived the journey to the United States and made it to Iowa, where they were reunited with Alex's mother and Javier's sister, Graciela. Mitchell became their guardian as a way to make sure the two could stay here with their family.
