The 6th to 8th grade Sunday school class at the Decorah Methodist Church is sponsoring a Bead for Life event from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday at ArtHaus at 508 W. Water Street in Decorah.
Bead for Life was founded 11 years ago by three Colorado women who were in Uganda and came up with the idea as a way to support Ugandan women who make jewelry. The Bead for Life non-profit organization makes sure these women get paid a fair living wage while also enrolling them in education and empowerment programs. See www.beadforlife.org for more info.
The Decorah Methodist youth group has been studying extreme poverty and what response to make to it. As a result, the class looked into the BeadforLife program and is now putting it into action.
Sunday's event will feature beaded jewelry that you can see, try on and purchase. There also will be free snacks and hot cocoa. Helen Johnson will perform live music. You can also try your hand at rolling some paper beads.
