Students at Decorah Middle School take part in the Iowa Youth Straw Poll

(Our previous story posted Wednesday confused the Iowa Youth Caucus and the Iowa Youth Straw Poll.  Here is a corrected story):

Decorah MIddle School students were among those participating in Tuesday's Iowa Youth Straw Poll. 

Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate organized the statewide voting at around 250 schools on Tuesday.  The goal of the Youth Straw Poll, according to the Secretary of State's website, "is to engage students in a hands-on learning experience that will inspire them to participate in civics in their community."

Students are encouraged to pick one candidate in both the Republican and Democratic parties.  Here are the final, official results of statewide voting by the students:

REPUBLICANS:
Donald Trump--24.70%
Marco Rubio--18.40%
Ben Carson--18.00%
Ted Cruz --15.00%
Jeb Bush-- 6.80%
Other/Write-In-- 4.80%
Carly Fiorina--3.40%
Rand Paul--3.30%

John Kasich--1.10%
