Posted: Wed, Jan 20, 2016 5:14 PM

Starting February 1st, volunteers from Northeast Iowa RSVP will be providing electronic income tax filing for low to middle income taxpayers (of any age) and for those over the age 60.

The services will be provided at the Decorah Public Library on Monday and Tuesday during the tax season beginning February 1st by appointment only.  To schedule an appointment, call (563) 419-3703.   Services are not available for those who are required to file a Schedule "C" or "F" for their business.  There is no cost for the service.

The AARP foundation provides training on tax laws and the use of tax preparation forms and software necessary to file electronic returns.  The volunteer preparers engage in 35 to 50 hours of training annually before taking a test to become a certified tax preparer under the AARP Program.  The certified volunteers work as a team with each return reviewed for quality control.  Volunteers follow a strict Code of Conduct to ensure confidentiality for the tax payer.  The AARP Tax Aide program is offered in cooperation with the IRS.

21 RSVP volunteers are working with the AARP & VITA tax programs in Allamakee, Howard and Winneshiek County.  The tax preparation services are also offered at the Cresco library (563-203-7681) and at the Postville Library (563-419-3703).  RSVP Volunteers also provide income tax preparation services at the Waukon Extension office at 563-568-6345 through the VITA tax program.  An appointment is needed at all sites.

The RSVP Volunteer program matches people who are age 55 & older with needs in their community.  Volunteers choose where they would like to volunteer and how much time they will spend volunteering.
