Forget it, Marty McFly--you won't be able to take your "Back to the Future" hoverboard to Luther College.
Citing safety concerns the college--effect immediately--has banned "the use, possession or storage of hover boards and similar devices, including Swagways, IO Hawks and Skywalkers."
Luther officials say they are making the move in the wake of safety concerns expressed by the National Fire Protection Association (http://www.nfpa.org/press-room/news-releases/2015/nfpa-issues-fire-safety-warnings-on-hover-boards)
The NFPA says batteries in the hoverboards are prone to exploding and starting on fire. The NFPA issued fire warnings and stated some hover board fires involved a lithium-ion battery or charger that leaked fluids, was prone to excessive heat and produced odors, sparks and smoke.
In response to these safety concerns, the school has prohibited the hoverboards on campus.
