Decorah Middle School student Lillian Grouws is this year's winner of the school-wide National Geography Bee.
Students in 6th through 8th grade participated in the bee, where they were given seven geography questions covering American states and countries around the world. The top students from each grade level competed against one another until two students were left. Eighth grade student Lillian Grouws took first place, while 8th grader Aidan Hunter was the runner-up.
The next level of competition is a written exam, which will determine if Grouws will be chosen to represent Decorah Middle School at the state competition.
