The NICC Sports Shooting Team, which is based on the school's Calmar campus, has just finished the first half of the 2015-2016 Iowa Collegiate Sport Shooting Conference schedule and is looking forward to its upcoming spring schedule.
Student athletes, such as Dallas Bohr, an Associate of Arts student from Castalia, enjoyed continuing the sport at NICC this season after competing at South Winneshiek High School.
"The NICC Sports Shooting Team was a great way to meet students that I wouldn't have normally met. I enjoyed being able to continue an activity I loved in high school and being part of Northeast Iowa Community College's first team," Bohr said.
"It's been a great first half to our inaugural season," said the team's coach, Mike Klimesh. "We have competed in four conference shoots. Our athletes have performed extremely well. We had a great blend of seasoned competitors as well as some who had never shot trap at all. I was very excited to see students sign up for our team who had never shot trap at the high school level. That was a great opportunity to expose them to the sport and they all took to it quickly and are competing at a level on par with other athletes who came into our program with previous experience."
The highlight of the first half of the season for the NICC team was when it placed third in the team standings, third in the men's division and third in the women's division at the Hawkeye Community College Invitational.
The NICC Sports Shooting Team will participate in three competition shoots in this spring, including the conference championship event.
