Sheriff's Department is warning of a new scam

The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department says it has received multiple phone calls over the past few days from residents who have received phone calls from someone who says they're with the IRS.

The caller tells the resident the IRS has filed lawsuits against that person and sometimes says there are arrest warrants because of unpaid taxes.

The Sheriff's Department says the calls are a scam.  The IRS will not call you--they contact people by mail.

Deputies say the callers are trying to collect personal information that they can use for their scams.
