Sheriff's Department asks for $7,000 to buy some body cameras for deputies

Are body cameras part of the future for the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department?  Winneshiek County Sheriff Dan Marx thinks they are.

The department's 2016-2017 budget request includes $7,000 to pay for some body cameras for deputies.  Marx says it's difficult to keep up with the newest technology, but he thinks body cameras are becoming standard in law enforcement.

Winneshiek County supervisors will decide whether the $7,000 request becomes part of next year's county budget.
