Winneshiek County supervisors in March selected deputy Dan Marx as the next Winneshiek County Sheriff. Marx has been a Sheriff's Deputy since 2002. He previously worked as a Winneshiek County jailer, Calmar police officer and Decorah police officer.
It's been a busy nine months for Marx since his appointment. He has been working on having clerical staff do the clerical work and jail staff do the jail work so deputies can spend their time on patrol or in investigations. The Sheriff's Department added a Medical Response Unit in the summer. It expanded its crime prevention efforts by creating a new Rural Business Notification Program.
All that happened at the same time the Sheriff's Department worked to cope with a leaking roof in the jail and an aging air conditioning system.
