NICC Calmar officials are continuing to work to implement a permeable paver and storm water runoff project planned for the land immediately adjacent to Iowa's Dairy Center, located just south of the campus on Highway 150.
Plans for the project call for a water infiltration trench, a rain garden, permeable paver parking lot in front of the robotic center, roof gutters and a sediment basin. Says NICC Calmar campus provost Rhonda Seibert, "This project will allow us to continue our efforts to control how much water is flowing from the building. The goal of the project is to channel that water into a more useful direction and control runoff."
Partners with NICC on the Urban Conservation Project include the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, U.S. Department of Agriculture-Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Winneshiek County Soil and Water Conservation District, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Northeast Iowa Dairy Foundation.
