The website www.niche.com has just released its rankings of all K-12 schools in the country--and Decorah is getting a lot of love!
Niche.com says it used "millions of opinions from more than 300,000 students and parents, dozens of statistical factors, and millions of student outcomes" and claims that these are "the most comprehensive K-12 school and district rankings to date."
The Decorah Community School District was named the #4 school district in Iowa. Niche.com gave A+ grades to the school district's handling of extracurriculars, food, health & safety and sports & fitness. A grade of A was given for academics, administration & policies and resources & facilities. A- grades were given for educational outcomes and teachers. The only category where Decorah received a B- was for student culture and diversity, noting the student body was almost 92 percent white.
Decorah Middle School was listed as the #2 middle school in Iowa. Only Ames Middle School received a higher ranking. South Winneshiek Middle School made the top 100 list at #65. The website gives Decorah MIddle School a grade of A+ for "overall experience" and grades of A for academics and teachers. The only listing that hurt Decorah MIddle School was a C+ for student culture and diversity. That listing incorporates statistics and student, alumni, and parent surveys regarding student culture and diversity at the school.
Decorah HIgh School was ranked the #7 high school in Iowa. Again, niche.com gave a lower score for student culture and diversity. Teachers at Decorah HIgh School were given a B+, while all other categories received some type of "A" grade.
