I hate mistakes. We put in a lot of work at decorahnews.com to make sure that the stories we post are accurate. That's because it upsets us to get something wrong. Our goal is 100 percent accuracy. Our performance, unfortunately, isn't 100 percent accuracy. In the course of writing more than 3,000 news stories each year, we made mistakes.
That's where you, the reader, can come in. Because — believe it or not — we'd like your help in catching our mistakes. Far from being upset when you e-mail, we appreciate being able to correct an error.
That's true even when—in an unusual turn of events — a reader contacts us to tell us a news story we ran eight months ago was wrong. There's no time limit to setting the record straight, so we'd like to post a corrected version of a story we wrote about a March 22nd accident:
" A two-vehicle accident on Highway 52 Sunday afternoon caused $20,000 worth of damages. Decorah Police say 26-year-old Ali Gruber of Minneapolis was headed north on the highway when her vehicle began sliding on the snow-covered road, crossed over the center line and collided with a southbound vehicle being driven by 52-year-old Lisa Burmahl of Geneseo, Illinois. Gruber's car suffered an estimated $14,000 in damages, while Burmahl's vehicle had an estimated $6,000 in damages. Neither driver was injured."
