Decorah resident Steven Nelson has begun a project he's calling "Scarves in the Park" that will get scarves and other winter items to people who need them.
Nelson has been hanging the scarves in the Water Street Park (although he has temporarily taken down the items to do approaching snow).
Says Nelson, "I've been doing some knitting and I've done lots of scarves lately. I have also received some new and gently worn items as well. I also have pledged help from friends and fellow knitters, Blue Heron Knittery and Norse Knitters.
Nelson says people who have mittens, gloves, caps, headbands and other winter items are welcome to hang them in Water Street Park after the snow ends. He says the theme of his project is, "NEED a scarf. TAKE a scarf. HAVE a scarf. LEAVE a scarf."
