The Decorah Planning & Zoning Commission next month will be asked to change the zoning classification on the former Wapsie Produce property on East Water Street--a step necessary to the development of four buildings that would house a total of 16 condo units.
Decorah realtor Jayme Folkedahl is asking for the zoning change. He has an offer pending on the property, with the purchase conditional on getting the zoning changed. The property is currently zoned "M-2 Limited Industrial." It would need to be changed to "R-3 Multiple Family Residential," which is the same zoning category neighboring property is in.
Folkedahl says construction of the first two of the four planned buildings would begin next spring if the zoning reclassification is approved.
There will be three different floor plans offered--one with 1,232 square feet, another with 1,333 square feet and the largest with 1,567 square feet.
Folkedahl tells decorahnews.com he thinks the location is a good one for the development. "Who wouldn't want to walk downtown?" he asks.
