Each year the Carrie Lee third graders visit Vesterheim Museum to learn about the past and how life has changed over time.
The students started the day by interviewing the grandparents in the classroom about how things have changed in their lifetime and asking about memories their parents had told them. Then they traveled to the grassy area by the mill and rotated through four stations at which apple pressing, rope making, flailing and grinding and shelling corn were demonstrated. Next the third graders took a tour of the mill, including a scavenger hunt looking for antique farm equipment. That was followed by a discussion about how the farm equipment was used and what replaces it now.
