Has the Winneshiek County Recycling Center in Freeport gone missing?

Posted: Wed, Nov 11, 2015 9:02 AM

The Winneshiek County Recycling Center in Freeport gets a lot of traffic in a typical week.  It's not just the vehicles of Winneshiek County residents who come to drop off their recyclables.  Semi drivers also come to the center to pick up the recyclable materials that are being sold to businesses around the country--if they can find the recycling center.

Recycling Coordinate Terry Buenzow says a strange problem has been occurring for the semi drivers--some GPS systems aren't giving accurate directions to the recycling center.

Buenzow says some semi drivers have been directed to nearby Kylie Ann Drive instead.  A few semi drivers have even been directed north of Decorah.

Buenzow says he's hoping that upcoming updates in GPS systems will eliminate the problem, which is occurring even though there are plenty of roadside signs directing traffic to the recycling center.

One county supervisor has another explanation for the problem, joking that it is caused by "The Freeport Traingle."
