Spillville man arrested after incident with gun causes school lockdown

A Spillville man was arrested Wednesday following a disturbance at his home.

51-year-old Jeffery Kuennen of Spillville has been charged with two counts of Felony Interference with Official Acts, Aggravated Domestic Assault, Aggravated Child Endangerment, Aggravated Eluding and Aggravated Carrying Weapons. 

The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call around 9:30 Wednesday morning about a disturbance involving a man with a loaded handgun at his home in Spillville.  There were multiple people inside the residence, including a small child. 

During this incident CFS Catholic School in Spillville was placed on lockdown until the situation was resolved.

Kuennen fled from law enforcement with the loaded handgun in a 1994 Ford Pickup.  He eventually pulled over for law enforcement and was taken into custody without incident.  Kuennen was arrested and booked into the Winneshiek County Jail.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office and Special Response Team were assisted by the Decorah Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa DOT Enforcement, Winneshiek Medical Center Ambulance and the Winneshiek County Attorney's Office.
