The Iowa Department of Public Health has completed its review of Winneshiek Medical Center's mammography program and has approved the program.
During the past fiscal year, the hospital conducted 1,900 mammograms. The hospital has a full-time radiologist on staff.
If the mammogram spots areas of concern, a follow-up can often be performed the same day.
In addition to conducting routine mammogram, the hospital works with the Winneshiek County Celebration of Life, which pays for free mammograms for patients who cannot afford the cost.
