Budget problems have hit Wartburg College hard this year.

Wartburg College is struggling to decide how to handle some severe budget problems.

The long-time Luther College rival has seen enrollment drop from just over 1,800 students in 2011 to about 1,537 today, according to an article on www.higheredtoday.com (https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2015/10/29/wartburg-college-and-other-liberal-arts-institutions-make-drastic-cuts-challenging).  The college currently has a $3.7 million budget gap.

That has led college officials to announce the school will be "non-renewing" 12 faculty members at the end of the school year in June.  If 12 professors are non-renewed, they would represent more than ten percent of Wartburg's instructors.  The cuts may include several popular professors on campus, which has led students to start protests, write letters and create a Facebook page in support of the professors.

Three informational budget meetings open to all faculty, staff and students were held Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week to review this year's budgets as well as next year's preliminary budget.

Wartburg College President Darrel D. Colson will finalize the list of faculty non-renewals by Tuesday, November 10th.
