Decorah High School's "Silver Cord" program is designed to encourage and recognize volunteerism in the community by high school students.
Recently 150 Decorah High School freshmen participated in a kickoff of the program--"Community Service Day."
The 150 freshmen, aided by 24 seniors, tackled school district projects, such as improvements to the outdoor classroom at West Side Early Childhood Center, and community projects, such as maintenance of the Trout Run Trail.
Remarked Decorah High School principal Kim Sheppard, "It's amazing how much difference a few hours of work will make!"
