Tuesday's rainfall is much appreciated (duh!)

Six counties in the area--including Winneshiek and Allamakee counties--have been declared in the midst of a "moderate drought"

A number of rainstorms in September and October have seemed to fall apart before they reached Winneshiek County.  As a result, conditions are dry now in Decorah--despite Tuesday's rain.

Much of far northeastern Iowa is abnormally dry.  Allamakee and Winneshiek counties have been classified as being in a "moderate drought."  The last four months in Decorah have had below normal precipitation.

Some portions of Allamakee County are 7 inches below normal for precipitation since the first of the year.

The National Weather service says the rain should end around noon Wednesday.  Another chance of rain is forecast for Friday night and Saturday morning.
