Another piece of the puzzle has fallen into place for the proposed $11 million Fairfield Inn & Suites hotel project on the site of the former Bluffs Inn in Decorah.
The city's Finance Committee has approved an agreement with Decorah Jobs that will give Decorah Jobs more money from the city's hotel/motel tax receipts starting in April of 2017 and lasting for five years. The agreement would increase Decorah Jobs' hotel/motel tax revenues from $75,000 a year to $135,000 a year. It is expected that hotel/motel tax revenues will increase sharply when the new Fairfield Inn opens.
Rebound Hospitality, the developer of the hotel project, has been promised $500,000 in financial help--but that money will be coming from Decorah Jobs, not the City of Decorah. Decorah Jobs is expected to sign a contract with Rebound Hospitality that sets several performance criteria for receiving the financial help.
The agreement with Decorah Jobs will be voted on by the Decorah City Council on November 16th.
