Volunteers are needed this weekend to start putting up the walls and trusses at the 2015 Habitat for Humanity house being built at 302 E. Henry in Calmar.
The hours for the Blitz Build are 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Saturday and 12:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
The basement has been excavated, footings poured, and plumbing roughed in. Tools and supervision will be provided, so volunteers of any skill level are welcome. Food will be provided for volunteers during the Saturday work schedule.
The Yoder family has been selected by Winneshiek County Habitat for Humanity to live in the house to be built this year on Henry Street in Calmar. Steve and Nichole have two daughters, two year old Aria and infant Tianna, and the family is currently renting in Ridgeway.
Winneshiek County Habitat for Humanity has built 29 homes since it was organized in 1992, joining 1,500 affiliates throughout the United States. This is the third home to be built in Calmar. Winneshiek County Habitat for Humanity homes have also been built in Burr Oak, Castalia, Decorah, Freeport, Ossian and Ridgeway.
