The Decorah City Council has approved a number of residential tax abatement applications.
Under a plan approved last year by the city council, property owners within the City of Decorah can qualify for a tax abatement for five years under the following categories:
--Exemption of property taxes for single family residential construction of 100 percent up to the first $400,000 of actual value added for five years.
--Exemption of property taxes for multi-family commercial residential construction of 100 percent for up to $40,000 per dwelling unit of actual value added for five years.
--Exemption of property taxes for existing residential if the improvements made improve the actual value added to the property more than 10 percent.
City council members Monday approved tax abatements for the following new home construction projects:
a) Kent and Denise Lee at 105 Ranchview Court
b) Paul and Miri Mattson at 1011 Walnut Street (partial--21% complete)
c) James and Jonathan Pankow at 1811 Division Street
d) William and Charlotte Brenning at 1809 Division Street
e) Paul Mullen at 506 Center Street (partial--30% complete)
f) Jayme Folkedahl at 1207 Walnut Street
g) Aaron and Katy Hafner at 1005 Walnut Street
and the following remodeling construction projects:
a) Robert and Christine Evenson at 207 Hilltop Drive ($40,000)
b) Hans and Mary Jorgensen at 724 Day Street (partial--25% complete)($150,000)
c) Maurice Hover at 205 Ohio Street, #7 ($50,000)
