What if everyone in Decorah read the same book at the same time? That's the idea behind Decorah's "All-City Read," a reading program organized by Decorah Public Library Director Lorraine Borowski to bring neighbors together and build a sense of camaraderie and community while promoting literacy and discussion.
Dr. Atul Gawande's New York Times bestseller, "Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End," has been chosen as the book to read. There will be a free panel discussion at 6:30 p.m. next Thursday, October 22nd, in room 102 of Luther College's Olin Hall. Panel members will be Decorah United Church of Christ pastor Laura Arnold; Gundersen Clinic Social Worker Elizabeth Kane; Dr. Deborah Lathrop; Dr. Dan Mansfield; and Luther College Social Work professor Craig Mosher. The panel will discuss choosing between hospice care or further medical treatment, advance directives and powers of attorney, providing support for the dying and for care-givers and more.
The library will host a follow-up discussion at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 27th on the 2nd floor of the library.
