The Iowa Transportation Commission on Tuesday morning approved the City of Decorah's application for a $364,375 state grant.  The money will be used to pave approximately 1,650 feet of Sweet Parkway Road in the Decorah Business Park.

Winneshiek County Development Executive Director Stephanie Fromm told members of the Commission at their meeting at the Hotel Winneshiek "This is very important to us."  Fromm said the paving project would provide access to another ten lots in the Business Park — a total of 66 acres of developable land.

Transportation Commission Vice Chair Daniel Huber spoke in favor of the project, noting that one of the new businesses that would relocate into the Decorah Business Park was Toppling Goliath and that the business is "incredibly popular."  That led Fromm to quip, "I'm surprised that wasn't part of your tour (yesterday afternoon)."

The last RISE grant given to the City of Decorah was in 2000 and also paid for road paving in the Decorah Business Park.  Fromm noted that 11 new businesses have opened in the park since that time.
